According to the German prosecutors about 200 European football games are under investigation in a match-fixing inquiry.
Uefa representative Peter Limacher, who was speaking at a news conference in Germany, said the revelations represented “clearly” the worst ever match-fixing scandal in European football.
“We at Uefa are stunned by the magnitude of this.” added Mr Limacher.
“Uefa will be demanding the harshest of sanctions before the competent courts for any individuals, clubs or officials who are implicated in this malpractice, be it under state or sports jurisdiction.”said in a statement Uefa’s general secretary, Gianni Infantino.
According to prosecutors all the matches under suspicion are believed to have taken place this year and at least three of the games were in the Champions League and another 12 were in the Uefa Europa League.
Matches under investigation were played in Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Croatia, Slovenia, Turkey, Hungary, Bosnia-Hercegovina and Austria.
