Manchester Utd came from behind to beat Wigan 2-1 at the JJB Stadium to move closer within a point of a third successive Premier League title.
Wigan took the lead from a 28th minute goal from Hugo Rodallega while Man Utd got an equaliser from a 61th minute Carlos Tevez goal.
At the 87th-minute Michael Carrick put Man Utd 2-1 with a 20yards strike.
Sir Alex Ferguson man now need only a draw from the home game against Arsenal on Saturday or the trip to Hull City on the last day of the season to complete their third successive Premier League title.
“It was a massive three points for us tonight,” Carrick told MUTV.”My goal made up for the chance I missed in the first half really. I was just concentrating on hitting the target and once I saw it was going in, I was off to celebrate it. I nearly broke Wazza’s (Wayne Rooney’s) neck with the celebration but he’s all right now!”
“I’m hugely disappointed for the players because they deserved something from tonight.” said Wigan Manager Steve Bruce.
“We had large periods of the game where we looked in control but you have to last for the entirety, and in the end Michael Carrick’s wonder-goal settled it.” added Steve Bruce.
“Overall I couldn’t wish for anymore, we did everything we possibly could to get the result.”
