In the Uefa Champions League semi final 1st leg, Man Utd have beaten Arsenal 1-0 with a goal from O’Shea at Old Trafford.Arsenal have their keeper to thanks on for only conceding one goal.
Man Utd started the game strongly and Alumina made some stunning save to deny Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez from scoring early on.But Manchester Utd took the lead at the 16th minute, when John O’Shea fired the ball from six yards to the back of the Arsenal net from a Michael Carrick crossing.A beautiful gift for O’Shea on Eve of his Birthday.
It was a scintillating first half from Manchester United and Arsenal were lucky to be only one goal behind after the break.
In the second half Arsenal tried to put pressure on Man Utd but they were never allowed to develop their passing skill, apart from some rare chances from Cesc Fabregas and a volley from Emmanuel Adebayor.
Ryan Giggs who came on for Anderson at the 67thmin,had a goal controversially disallowed for offside on his 800th appearance with 12 minutes left.
Manchester Utd have completely outclassed Wenger’s team tonight at Old Trafford.
“We played at a good high tempo and maybe we should have scored four goals, but before the game, I wanted to win without losing a goal.We know we can go there and score and that is the big problem Arsenal have” Said Sir Alex Ferguson.
Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger is confident that Arsenal will do well next Tuesday at the Emirates Stadium.
“It was a difficult game played at a high pace. Manchester United started stronger than us and if you look at the clear cut chances they were on top, of course, tonight. The positive is that we are only 1-0 down and we are still to play at home. I am convinced you will see a different Arsenal at The Emirates.” said Arsene Wenger.
“There is a Final at stake. Don’t worry, when you play at home knowing you could reach a Final, we will be up for it. I am confident because I believe we will be on top next Tuesday and you will see a different Arsenal team.”
