In the Coca Cola Championship Reading have taken the fourth place after a 0-2 win at Derby this Tuesday night.
After a goalless draw in the first half, and three goals disallowed inside the first seven minutes Reading took the lead with a 56th minute goal by Dave Kitson from a Jimmy kebe crossing.
At the 73th minute Long doubled Reading score. Reading have earned a precious away win and are now virtually sure for the play-offs while having a chance for the automatic promotion.
Reading manager, Steve Coppell said that he was delighted after the victory.
“After a strange start to the game, you could very easily get the feeling that it’s not going to be your night. But the boys stuck at it and tried to play on a delightful passing surface with a nice layer of dew on it.It was a good performance all round. Goals, opportunities, and we looked to be carrying a threat for most of the night. It was very pleasing for us.” said Coppell in a press conference after the match.
Nigel Clough, Derby manager, said that his team was beaten by an experienced side.
“Tonight we were beaten by an experienced side and I thought that once they got the first goal that was it, they were in command from that point.” said Clough.
Elsewhere relegated Charlton drew 2-2 against Cardiff while Coventry denied Barnsley a crucial victory that would have moved them four points clear of the relegation zone after drawing 1-1.
