It has been long since struggling Newscastle tasted the sweetness of a victory since beating West Bromwich Albion 3-2 on Feb the 7th 2009. Newcastle boss Alain Shearer will be looking for a home win when they meet 14th placed Portsmouth on Monday night at St Jame’s Park.
Earlier this season Newcastle won 3-0 at Portsmouth with all goals in the second half from Owen, Martins and Guthrie, and its three years now since Newcastle won against Portsmouth at the St Jame’s Park.
“We need the fans more than ever during these three home games. They can be our 12th man. We need 52,000 Geordies screaming us on because the situation is a difficult one.” said Newcastle Keeper.
Newcastle boss Alan Shearer will have a difficult choice on whether to go with Mark Viduka and Obafemi Martins ahead of Michael Owen.
“we’re all desperate for a win but when the manager came in we had a couple of tough games. But this is a game (Portsmouth) we’re probably expected to win. It’s an acid test for us and we have to get the three points.” said Owen on nufcTV.
Portsmouth is a difficult team to play on and beat, and after an interesting performance against Liverpool where they lost 3-2 and a victory against Man.city 2-0 it will be a difficult task for Newcastle to beat them.
