Manchester Utd have reclaimed the top place of the English Premier League table after beating Portsmouth 2-0 at Old Trafford, while Chelsea were held to a goalless draw by Everton at Stamford Bridge this Wednesday night.

The game also marked Paul Scholes 600th Manchester United appearance.

Portsmouth started strong with a 54sec ball fired by Nadir Belhadj and saved by Man Utd keeper Edwin Van der Sar while nine minutes later Man Utd took the lead when Ryan Giggs produced a super cross to Wayne Rooney who fired the ball to the middle of the Portsmouth net.

The first half ended with the Man Utd lead. Man Utd wasted plenty of chances and can blame themselves for not scoring more.

After the break Man Utd continued the pressure and at the 82th minute  Michael Carrick scored the Red Devils second goals from deep inside the penalty area.

“In the first half you saw some of the best football you’ll see all season. It was absolutely fantastic. But we missed about four or five chances, so instead of going in five-nil up at half time we were one-nil up and made it difficult for ourselves. ” Said Sir Alex Ferguson to MUTV.

Manchester Utd is now on top of the Premier league with 74pts for 32 games.
