Liverpool have responded superbly after their Wednesday defeat against Chelsea in UEFA Champion League quarter final 1st leg with a 4-0 victory against Blackburn.This marked also Liverpool last match at Anfield ahead of the 20th anniversary of the Hillsborough tragedy in which 96 Liverpool’s fans died during FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest.
Fernando Torres scored a fabulous goal 5min in the first half and made the double 29min later with a super header from an Alonso’s free-kick.This match marked also Liverpool goalkeeper, Jose Pepe Reina 200 appearance for Liverpool.
In the second half Aager fired a ferocious 30-yard strike before David Ngog trashed Blackburn at the 90min.Final score at Anfield Liverpool 4-0 Blackburn.Steven Gerrard was left on the bench with a groin injury.
Blackburn were without El-Hadji Diouf, Jason Roberts and Morten Gamst Pedersen while Andre Ooijer, Tugay, David Dunn and Keith Treacy were bought in.
Fernando Torres told Sky Sports that it was a great result coming after the game against Chelsea, and now the team have confidence after this result to go to Stamford Bridge on Tuesday. Torres also added that the last game was not so good but now they have done their job.
Liverpool is now two points clear of Manchester United’s at the top of the table,before Manchester United’s game against Sunderland at 1500 BST this Saturday.Rafael Benitez said that it was a positive result for Liverpool.
