In the English Premier League, this Sunday, Blackburn Rovers have beaten Wigan 2-0 at Edwood Park.
The crucial victory helped Blackburn to move six points clear of the relegation zone. Blackburn went in front at the 45th mins from a Benni McCarthy header.
After the break at Blackburn captain Ryan Nelsen, doubled Blackburn lead with his first goal after four years and 111 league games.
“The great win over Spurs helped and that was backed by good support. But the support today was better because we filled both ends. We are not quite out of relegation zone yet. But it’s not far to go now to get safe.” Said Sam Allardyce.
“We got off to a really good start by concerting some pressure on Wigan and creating a few chances which gives the fans something to look forward to.;’ said Sam Allardyce on Radio Rovers.
“The whole of the ground was all ours nearly today for the first time which meant that there was a vibration of sound all the way around which I think was helping the players along.
“I think that their response and the fans together has contributed to what was a fantastic result in the end.”
Earlier Arsenal won 2-0 against Portsmounth and in the non league Burton Albion have been crowned Blue Square Premier champions despite a 2-1 defeat by Torquay.
